September is National Suicide Prevention Month. The Ambassadors and Counselors are sponsoring a week of awareness beginning 9/22-9/29.
Each day we will give a step for how you can Be The One to help someone else in crisis. On Thursday, September 29th, we encourage everyone to wear Purple or Teal in support of Suicide Prevention.
Step 1 is be the one to ASK, Step 2 is be the one to KEEP THEM SAFE, Step 3 is be the one to be there, Step 4 is be the one to help them connect. Step 5 is be the one to follow up.
If you are struggling, see a school counselor or call the Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
Remember that anyone can be the ONE to save a life.
Don’t forget to wear purple or teal on Thursday, September 29th to support suicide prevention!
Kealing Middle School will be hosting a High School Fair on Tuesday, October 11th during advisory. The high school fair is meant to give all students an opportunity to visit with their zoned high school and to see what other application based programs are offered at AISD high schools.
Last year, all of the participating high schools did a wonderful job of showcasing their schools’ special programs and offering their insight into the high school experience for rising 9th graders.
It will be helpful and exciting for students to get a taste of what their high school has to offer. Last year, schools brought flyers, tri-folds, did mini demonstrations and many brought a few high school students with them to speak on their behalf.
It would be helpful if students know their zoned high school. Below is a link to the AISD school assignment by resident address (SARA), where you can enter your address to identify your zoned high school.
Please visit the counseling website for continued updates on upcoming high school transition events.
